Preparing for the Fourth Trimester
Practical, reassuring ideas for everyday family life.
The first twelve weeks after birth are often called the fourth trimester. Your baby is adjusting to the world, and your body is healing. A little preparation makes this time calmer.
Set up a recovery corner
Keep essentials within reach: a peri bottle, soft postpartum underwear, pads, water and snacks. A ready-made recovery kit saves you from last-minute shopping.
Plan for rest
- Sleep when the baby sleeps, even for short naps.
- Accept help with meals, laundry and visitors.
- Keep a simple list of what friends can do for you.
Be kind to yourself
Every recovery is different. If you feel worried or low for more than a couple of weeks, talk to your doctor or midwife. Asking for support is a strength.
